The Toyota Collaborative Safety Research Center (CSRC) announced recently a comprehensive new set of research programs that will examine the opportunities and challenges of emerging vehicle technologies. The 11 projects, conducted in partnership with eight leading North American research institutions, are the first ones launched under CSRC Next, the center's new five-year program that supports a safe transition to the future of mobility.
Launched in January 2017, CSRC Next builds on insights learned from the CSRC's first five years. The program will devote $35 million towards safety research into advanced vehicle technologies, including connected and autonomous systems. CSRC Next will also support ongoing research programs at both the Toyota Research Institute (TRI) and Toyota Connected (TC), helping accelerate the growth of autonomous and connected driving technologies and services.
