Yesterday, Toyota issued a press release announcing a successful performance for the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro at the recent 2016 Texas Truck Rodeo. More than 70 journalists from the Texas Auto Writers Association gathered at Longhorn River Ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas for the two-day event, now in its 26th year. After an exciting weekend of evaluating and test driving more than 80 vehicles, TAWA members selected the Tacoma TRD Pro as the number one vehicle in the Mid-size Pickup Truck category.

Assembled in San Antonio, Texas, the Tacoma TRD Pro is powered by a segment-first Atkinson Cycle V-6 engine that produces more than 270 horsepower. For drivers looking to escape the confines of the asphalt, the adventurous pickup features a Crawl Control system, Multi-Terrain Select, Locking Rear Differential, Hill Start Assist Control and Active Traction Control, which takes over the truck’s acceleration and braking, allowing drivers to focus on navigating over tough terrain.

“As America’s best-selling mid-size pickup for ten years running, the recognition as Mid-size Pickup Truck of Texas confirms our vision of producing a truck that can tackle any off-road challenge,” said Mike Sweers, Tacoma chief engineer. “Toyota’s commitment to the new Tacoma TRD Pro was focused on meeting the needs of adventure-seekers where roads fear to tread, and we have proven that today.”
